The pig has long been considered an unintelligent creature, but a new study has shown that pigs are actually very intelligent animals.

The study, which was conducted by scientists at the University of Cambridge, found that pigs can be trained to recognise human faces. The pigs were also found to have excellent memories, outperforming dogs in intelligence tests.

"The finding that pigs can learn to recognize human faces so quickly is really quite astonishing," said Dr. Lisa Collins, one of the researchers involved in the study. "They are definitely not the dumb animals that many people think they are."

In addition to their ability to recognise human faces, pigs have also been shown to be able to understand complex commands. A 2006 study showed that pigs could be taught to open a gate and enter an area where food was waiting for them.

So why have pigs been underrated for so long? One possible explanation is that pigs are viewed as dirty and smelly animals. But as this latest research shows, they are much more than that.
